Maya Amoah is the designer and creative director of her brand BATIK BOUTIK, a clothing label she founded in 2018.

Ethically produced in Ghana, the brand aims to preserve sacred traditions of craftsmanship including batik dyeing and kente weaving through documentation as well as incorporating them in her contemporary designs. 

 

Maya recently co-created an exhibition format for the first time. Hosted at her studio, she was creative director of "Woven Legacies", an exhibition exploring African textile and craftsmanship in installation formats during Montreal fashion week last month. Spending half the year in Ghana, she also photographs her fashion campaigns and offers a journalistic lens of the artisanal practices in Ghana mainly through video.
